I’m a federal employee and used to be covered by a union (long story, follow the news of curious). They were responsible for ensuring regular raises-it isn’t up to a supervisor, it is just a schedule that happens automatically. Just one example of the good unions can be. On the other side, my team had a nurse practitioner who has been clearly impaired for the past few YEARS. Like in person falling asleep in meetings, driving in a dangerous manner, disappearing for hours at a time etc. because of the Union they have to go through the same investigation and appeals process as anyone else. EVEN WITH THE CLEAR CUT EVIDENCE OF WRONGDOING. And she’s getting paid this entire time. There needs to be a middle ground.

I'm not in a union now, but I used to work in a Teamsters machine shop. I've got an inactive card around here somewhere. I thought the union did a good job of reining in an abusive owner, but the slick-looking business agent seemed a little sus, with his shades, cowboy boots, and shiny new pickup.
The union hall was across the street from a Deja Vu strip club. Deja Vu advertised free admission with your union ID.

I think one of the other reasons the right wing doesn't have as much talent is that talented and funny people kinda hold a mirror up to reality to make us see real things in a new way. How are you going to write great jokes, stories, art, or act well if your perception is inaccurate?
