the most common example of how this shit gets started i can distill down into a single experience: a guy fell off a ladder. he doesn't have time to let himself heal b/c if he doesn't work his family doesn't eat and the medical bills are about to start rolling in, so he takes the pills to keep going. it's not hard to find a doc to write scripts like candy for longer than necessary. eventually you do run out of either access or money, but you still have to work. so you find the last guy who fell off a ladder and on and on and on.

the opiates come in b/c instead of affordable healthcare where one injury, sickness, or procedure doesn't bankrupt your family, we have this.

Also its generally easier to get pain meds of any kind in America, in Germany even easy painmeds like Aspirin can only be sold in a pharmacy behind a counter and more dangerous ones like paracetamol (US = Tylenol) can only be sold in small packsizes because its kinda easy to overdose and wreck your liver.

And even that is not stopping Germany slowly developing serious problems with opiates. And from everything I read its already super fucked up in the US.

But Keith is fine so obviously science is wrong about this topic.
