There is nothing that is wrong with it and I would love to see something but I want it to come from the private sector and not rammed down my throat from the government. Please give me one example of a government program that is not a total Charley Foxtrot.

Government can fuck up a wet dream. Look at Biofuels. Liberals demanded we needed Biofuels and Congress gives us the the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) Bioenergy Program and the biodiesel education program to pander to the masses. Now food costs are increased because more corn and soybeans are being used to make fuel. There was an article last week about limiting rice purchases here in the US.

Latest news....Liberals are now bitching that biofuels create MORE CO2 in the atmosphere than fossil fuels and now there is talk about food shortages worldwide because there is less corn and soybeans on the market. Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF THIS. BASIC ECONOMICS AND THE PRIVATE SECTOR WILL FIX THIS SITUATION. SUPPLY & DEMAND WORKS. It will not be immediate and it might be painful but you have the right to life, liberty & and the pursuit of happiness. Happiness is not guaranteed...just the pursuit.

Understandable.

I certainly agree the market could manage this. There's nothing wrong with sustainable economies if it's done right.

I'm just as pissed at biofuels - using corn and soybeans is just retarded.

Weather patterns are cyclical. You have periods of hotter summers and colder winters and cooler summers and warmer winters. Go back and graph the avg temp for the last 125 years. It kinda looks like a sine wave. Hell I remember in grade school people were calling for the next ice age.
On July 24, 1974 Time Magazine published an article entitled "Another Ice Age?" Here's the first paragraph:

"As they review the bizarre and unpredictable weather pattern of the past several years, a growing number of scientists are beginning to suspect that many seemingly contradictory meteorological fluctuations are actually part of a global climatic upheaval. However widely the weather varies from place to place and time to time, when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe they find that the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing. Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age."
BTW, look into where people are getting their temperature data. You might be surprised that thermometers are place in some plenty silly places to gather that data.

I listened to pieces of the presidents news conference this morning at work in my truck. He blamed congress for the high prices and preventing him from acting. He asked for ANWR exploration and drilling, and more refineries. Basically he wants to make it easier for the oil companies to find more oil. He claimed that short supply is to blame for the prices. He claimed he could do something about them if only congress would let him empower big oil to produce more oil.

He hemed and hawed when confronted with the idea of a moritoriam on the federal gas tax. He said he is considering it. Later he advocated making his tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans permanent. This guy is hard core with the supply-side bullshit. He is telling us that cutting taxes on fuel, benefiting joe blow driving to work is a tough choice; yet he doesn't flinch when it comes time to cut taxes on those making hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars per year (regardless of the deficit consequences).

APM's Marketplace program had a good piece this afternoon, analyzing the president's remarks this morning. The experts on the program concluded that there is plenty of oil supply, while demand is actually falling (supply/demand not to blame for 50% increase in price of oil). They pointed out that there is already a lot of refining capacity being added (and what is out there is only at 85% of capacity). They illustrate that the weak dollar is partly responsible: the dollar is only down 10% while the price of oil is up 50%+ in the last year. They concluded that the dramatic increase is the result of speculators driving up the price.

It seems that the same retards who bought high hoping to sell higher and lost their asses in real estate are creating a new bubble in the oil market. It's gamblers in the commodity markets.

I personally don't give a shit about the price of oil. I sell a product that people buy in good times and bad times. I bicycle more than I drive, and when I do drive I live in a city where traffic is never a burden.

What I do give a shit about is the president looking into a camera and lying to us about the whole mess. He is using the price of gasoline to get political favors for oil companies, and selling it to us with a blatant lie. He realizes that most journalists just report what he says as the truth.

I was furious when Bill Clinton stared into a camera and lied to all of us about who he was fucking. There is no way to express how angry I am for the dumbest president in history telling blatant lies to benefit oil companies.

</rant>
This is a lie b/c the big oil companies just got rights to the Iraqi oil. So the war accomplished it's mission. The oil companies got their oil. it got divided up between Chevron, Dutch Oil, ExxonMobil and another company I cannot remember.

Just look at the way he talks and the stuff he's let his administration do without a second thought. Plus his belief that God speaks to him directly.

.
the whole thing about food cost being caused by crops bein diverted for fuel use is COMPLETE BS 10000's of tons of crops are destroyed and plowed under due to quotas and companies deeming profits not high enough. IE if a crop cannot produce a high profit ie 30-40% min they simply plow it over cause its not worth the bother. Ahhh fuck it Im not gonna bother cbc radio has a 5 part series they just realesed studying the food production. Feeding a hungry planet its called i believe, the amount of waste is just fuckin mind boggling. Also like oil only a few companies control the vast majority of crops, 70% of wheat in the world is controlled by a single company.

shit thats not what its called diet for a hungry planet was on indias rice production anyways its there stop regergitating stupid news propaganda. oooo oils up cause of demand, food is up cause of bio fuels......this is all bs

Could this be because the government got involved when they did not need to? They have made it too profitable to raise corn.

BTW, if I am a farmer, I can do whatever I want to do with MY land. I can grow 80 acres of soybeans and then spray it with RoundUp. The government does not own it.
