Unfortunately, in Germany there's a lot of casual homophobia. No-one I know actually HATES gays, but they have jokes or puns making fun of politicians because they're gay (the politician Guido Westerwelle is called 'Schwesterwelle', schwester meaning 'sister' because he's gay - I've heard loads of people call him that).

I'm gay and no-one calls me names. But let's be honest, people can just be real fags sometimes. :P
