I was looking at those cactus remote triggers and I found some on another website I usually buy stuff from,
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.13089 they look similar to the one on ebay except for the branding. For half price I think it might be a knock-off. That strobist blog and remote triggering flashes is really awesome, but I'm thinking I'm still gonna try and save for the 430ex because right now I think I need on on-camera flash. Photography is really awesome. but expensive... |

I am also wondering about diffusers. Are they a must have? I found a few cheap-o's for like $4, does quality matter in these or is it just color tinting. Also, I found a knock-off lightspere for like $16-17, anyone heard anything about it?

Just an update:
Well I worked everything out and wouldn't have enough to buy the 430ex in time(almost two weeks). So I bought another flash that I heard had decent reviews a Nissin Di622 for about $115 total. It's pretty basic and seems to have decent build quality and I also ordered the bootleg lightsphere, so we'll see how that goes. I don't know how long this flash will last so I'm still trying to save for the 430ex. Thanks for all of your help. |

-UPDATE-
It's been a while - still loving my S5IS but got tired of waiting for dSLR Day.
I couldn't resist some pre-Xmas sales and got a true 'starter' body. 5D MkII can come later... As much as I loved the Nikon bodies etc I listened to the advice and went looking at all the expensive glass. Yikes. Canon won. My fav new lens info site. I went for a cheap ass Rebel XS on-sale. $440 Cdn$ (??!!) with 18-55 non-IS paperweight lens. As suggested - First lens - the 50mm 1.8. Wicked fun. Thanks Chris R. Next lens - 24-70 f/2.8L (used $700) and the 70-200 f/2.8L IS (new - $1800!!??) Eventually I'll get a full size sensor cam body that can really use the nice glass. For now I can wear out the Rebel learning. |

OK - SO I've had the Rebel XS and 50mm lens for about 6 months now. Have figured out RAW workflow and Elements OK-ish. Here's some recent examples.

Nikon.
I have the 60 and I really really like it. pretty light weight. although Nikon's are notorious for noisy pictures if you up your ISO too much. but i haven't had any problems with mine. love it. |
