The Controlled Lucid Dream Experiment

Quote:
A 2005 study carried out by the British Cheese Board claimed that when it came to dream types, Stilton cheese seemed to cause odd dreams, with 75% of men and 85% of women experiencing bizarre and vivid dreams after eating a 20 gram serving of the cheese half an hour before going to sleep. (source)
After "742: Dream Warriors" I remembered reading the above quote refered on reddit.

I thought it would be interesting to make an experiment:
  • Do not eat or drink anything a couple of hours before bedtime.
  • Eat a specific cheese just before you go to bed.
  • Note if you get lucid dreams and report the result here.
  • Try different cheeses to see if there are different results.

That doesn't suggest a link between eating Stilton and having lucid dreams. Just weird dreams. For accuracy's sake.

Lucid dreaming is a pretty awesome phenonomon, though I could do without the associated freaky sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations.

Still, I'm up for some cheese tasting.

i don't know the correlation, but potatoes before bed will cause a similar effect.

Different effects for different people, I guess. For me; Green Tea, dark (+72%) chocolate, cheese gives me weird but very realistic dreams, like being the main character in an awesome movie. Coffee does not give me any dreams. You don't dream if you do not sleep!

I got to try potatoes!

Not directly, no. But judging the comments (here) a lot of people do get lucid/vivid/weird dreams after eating, especially, cheese before bedtime.

Maybe this experiment will shed some light over what to eat to get "the best" dreams.
