I think anyone who's taken Comp Sci 101 knows this (or at least should know this). Sadly, the source of these errors is left until the very last sentence of this stupid sensational article:

"And in that case, it's probably more accurate to say that computer programmers suck at maths – or at least some of them do."

In all those cases the error can be traced back to a human.

In the Scud missle case, the article takes a negative view. How about: without the anti-scud system to intercept, there would be a shitload of dead soldiers.
