Regarding the "Hallmark" realization, I did the same type of thing with "Heroine" as a drug. Took me 27 years to make the connection to the female version of hero.
I'm assuming the initial connection being made to a "sexy" escape from your troubles. |

"The name was derived from the Greek word 'Heros' because of its perceived 'heroic' effects upon a user. It was developed chiefly as a morphine substitute for cough suppressants that did not have morphine's addictive side-effects." I always knew the words sounded similar, but didn't know "heroin" was a product name explicitly named for that reason. But it makes sense. Thanks for directing me to this info! Also, thanks for listening! You and everyone who did/does/will! This was a real fun one. These people are all wonderful, and combining them doesn't take away from that wonderfulness. |

I had no idea those sex things were in the works. The sex with a robot sounds freaky but I can see the necessity of them in the future...not so much with a child-like robot. I don't think that would really help them to get over their disease, especially since there are 2 types of pedos, the ones who really believe that they are in a loving relationship and the sadists who get off on the kids screams of pain etc. I don't think any robot no matter how sophisticated would be able to satisfy those people.

look here: "A 10 percent increase in Internet access, Kendall found, typically meant a 7.3 percent reduction in the number of reported rapes. For other types of crime, he found no correlation with Web use. What this research suggests is that sexual urges play a big role in the incidence of rape -- and that pornographic Web sites provide a harmless way for potential predators to satisfy those desires." i don't see why this would be substantially different with child rapists. in fact, it could be even MORE helpful, because of how much more bottled up their urges must be. if it were made clear that a policy similar to "love the sinner, hate the sin" were really applicable here; that is, if we didn't punish people for their thoughts (a thing which DOES happen now, essentially, leading pedophiles to keep to themselves even more, which leads to isolation and other negative results), if people were able to seek treatment... if there were a way to produce child porn without actual children (which there is, CGI and such), i really believe this would decrease the actual quantity of child rape, and decrease the suffering of the gold-star non-raping pedophiles that exist right now, who are unable to seek help for fear of pre-emptive retribution. i know it sounds weird, but i do think there's something to it for reals. i've been talking about it in my standup a bit lately as well. always happy for more people's opinions. talking = good! |

I think Baratunde Thurston is my new favorite person/ comedian. He was recently on WTF and Marc Maron made a very nice Myq name drop by referring to Baratunde's peers as the 'Myq Kaplan Generation' of smart comedians. After listening to this episode; agreed.
Great dialogue on friendship. This show is like an enlightening collegiate level course that's a lot of fun. Also, you laugh. A lot. A++ |

And yes, Baratunde is an amazing person, comedian, and friend. I'm thrilled to know him, and super glad that he is out there in the universe as much as he is. Or more. I'd be happy for more. Which there will be. Keep being, Baratunde! PS I haven't listened to his WTF yet, but am even more excited to now. Thanks for sharing! |
