Wrong. We have the 37th best system in the world. The World Health Organization rates us around Slovenia and Costa Rica. Have a nice day.

The World Health Organization's ranking of the world's health systems

We're also 24th in life expectancy, but 2nd in the amount of money we SPEND on health care. So we spend too much but don't perform nearly as well as European countries like France.

Canadian healthcare sucks? Is that why busloads of old people take day trips across the border to buy their drugs in Canada because the pharmaceutical companies charge three times as much for the same drug in the US?

It must be said though that a lot of european countries tend to overrate the efficiency of their health system (France and Britain in particular), at the expense of the US health system, especially after the whole "Sicko" issue. Italy's healthcare is at a thoird world level, but still on most of the newspapers and in the words of the liberal propaganda the phrase "we do better than the US, because our health system is public and free" is uttered constantly.

Yeah, but this wasn't self-reporting, this was the World Health Organization rating them.

And when you go to the survey showing that we are ranked 24th in life expectancy, then any argument that it's all UN socialist propaganda kind of flies out the window. We spend too much money for a lesser product and we die sooner then the citizens of 23 other countries.

I'll give you cardiovascular disease (it's overtaken cancer as the leading cause of death), but diabetes deaths are still pretty far down the list....more people die from accidents and respiratory disease.

My main irritation is with the pharmaceutical industry and HMOs that (largely) put profits before patient care.

And if socialized health care is so horrible, I guess we're doing our military men and women a disservice, because that's what they have. I'd also like to see these politicians lose their free-for-life healthcare and see what they say when they're forced to duke it out with private insurance companies who might decide to drop them if they get cancer.

Second, I wish to formally renounce the the vodka and Crystal Light recipe Keith laid out for us...CRAP...when I drink Vodka in that amount I get mean!! Forget Tequila! VODKA turns me into a NUT! So sorry. Thank goodness Dina drinks beer!

And, for the record Pickard...I too like star trek. I'd boink those chicks anytime!!! You get sick I'll put you up South of the boarder at my own place...deal?

Since I'm here I might as well tell the whole tale. 1.225 Sheets to the wind and give 45.72 babillion dookies about this story!

My best friend, 38 yrs old, is dying of cancer. A real heck of a deal. No health insurance, no life insurance, his wife has no job. They will file bankruptcy. When he is dead (which he will be soon) she will either have to a) marry someone or, b) live destitute. Not a good scenario. The real bummer is that he would have had health care if he would have worked the system to get it. Keith and Chemda...you can get it in NY too...but it will cost about 700 per month. Make it a priority please.

My immediate family is faced with a similar sickness (my son has a bad tumor). Over the past 20 years I've paid $180,000+ into the system...this one surgery will hit is for $500k. Thank the good Lord I've got the coverage...but even with health care there are no promises for him. We shall see. At least I won't loose everything.

I apologize for being a jerk (NO MORE VODKA FOR ME FOR SURE...it just makes me mean-spirited). I get so very frustrated to see people who have access to care pass it by thinking they don't need it when they really, really do. This is not an issue that faces all of us; regardless of where we live. Hopefully you will do the responsible thing and seek help. And, if you are in the US, I can help you find coverage. Just e-mail me your state of residence and I'll send information over (no charge...it is my pleasure).

It's not like having insurance is that much better off these days. Co-pays for visits and drugs are starting to climb so high that even I have to think twice about going to doctors, even for my paps, which I need annually. Then, if I go to get my knee checked out, I get the same bullshit answers from the doctors who don't care, who tell me it's A when my history clearly indicates I have had B for years. Add that to jobs who require a doctor's note if you're out for even 1 sick day, and you are paying just as much in one year as someone with no insurance may have to pay in one visit. It's not really worth it anymore.

Why all this serious talk. What about Brolo's tale about the fight at the gig? It was hilarious. Brolo really can tell a story like no one else can.
