If I weren't Miss Mary Sunshine before, it won't help to know that I am the apple of my parents' eyes and the in-laws and I get on famously. They're all exceptionally generous, loving people.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to burst into song. |

I get on very well with both my parents, both when I lived at home and when I lived away; they tell me they're proud, love me etc etc.
However I wouldn't say we have a 'great relationship' because maybe the reason we get on so well is because I only share with them the things I know they will approve of, and I generally withold anything that may cause conflict. I like to dander down the path of least resistance. For example, my last trip to New York my parents thought I was interrailing through Europe... Potayto, Potahto. |

I voted no.
My dad died when I was a freshman in college, so I went to live with my mom, whom I quickly discovered was a heroin addict when she, without a second thought, stole the $6000 in life insurance I got from my dad's employer and disappeared for 3 weeks leaving a 17 year old to care for his 4 and 12 year old brothers with nothing and no family to turn to. She's cleaned up and an addiction counselor now, but, though I'm a forgiving person in general, I don't think I can ever really let it go. I don't walk around mumbling "That fucking cunt," or anything But I'm not ready to disassociate the past. Doesn't help that she found me on facebook and gives me the "..." every time I post about cracking a beer on the weekend. Sorry, I got a buzz going, pardon my rambling. Clownmouth. |

I voted yes.
I have a great relationship with both my mom and dad. I can talk to my mom for hours and have a great time doing so. That being said, I have learned to compartmentalize some parts of my life. I don't talk to them about sex nor do I swear in front of them. But I do that only because I know that sort of talk makes them uncomfortable and I respect them enough to watch what I say. They are both active in my life and I don't know what I would do without them.
