Tell me if I was a scumbag for this.

When I was leaving to come to the USA I obviously had shit I couldn't bring, my main desire was to get rid of it but people kept offering me money for the stuff. Now none of it was worth much so I wrote in the email that I sent out.
"I just want to get rid of these items, you come and collect them, if you want to give me something for it then make an offer but you don't have to"
Some people took things for free some people paid like $50 for everything they took.
I wanted to avoid that thing,
"Its free seriously."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes I just want it gone"
"But can't I give you something for it?"

But now I don't know if I should have just said its free and put up with the people trying to be nice or if I should have just charged people.

Yeah I forgot what his name actually was. I didn't like his album so it wasn't a major concern, considering I have no urge to recommend it to anyone.
