The "twist" of Shutter Island was pretty well telegraphed in the trailer, not that it could possibly be all that surprising even if it wasn't. But I don't see how it is a "cheap way of getting out of things." What are they getting out of? Do you think that they made the first three-quarters of the movie and then realized they had to explain everything that happened and had to come up with something real quick? That's the story they are telling. Granted, it's a story a lot of twelve year olds come up with after reading Catcher In The Rye, but they're not getting out of anything.
This podcast pointed out even more stupidity in The Dark Knight. But it still doesn't obscure the things it did right. |
