Supposedly Ice Cube never graduated to major crimes like drug slinging or murder because he was never officially gang affilitated, he did mostly petty crime like stealing car stereos, etc. It's not unheard of for a rapper to talk big in his songs without the claims being at all true, a lot of popular rappers have done it.

I really think Chemda is the naive one on the gay marriage issue. You honestly think these guys give a shit who gets married?

What makes more sense:

Ray's view: The lobbyists for the big corporations are putting money in their pockets to not allow gay marriage, so the big business taxes stay low. The politicians then invoke the sanctity of marriage as the reason they oppose gay marriage, thereby gaining the religious vote.

Chemda's view: The politicians care about the bible and believe in the sanctity of marriage. They also cheat on their wives on the side.

Occam's razor.

I've personally always assumed it to be a tax issue on the opposition side. It's the people with no power who do the actual gay bashing, the people making the laws probably couldn't care less who sleeps together.

Why don't the companies give money to revoke married rights? Because campaigns aren't won based off who has the most money. The money goes to campaign to influence the public: run ads, give speeches, etc. The people who vote are mostly heterosexuals (pure statistics) and many are married. Thus, they don't care about gay rights, but they care about married benefits. Regardless of how much money you have as a candidate, you'll never win by campaigning to take away marriage benefits, because that's who's voting for you.

What do you mean by "Occam's razor"?

Of the two theories you outlined, Chemda's seems the simplest by far.

I don't believe politicians really care about the bible, but it's a simpler explanation than the corporations/lobbyists/taxes/votes scenario.

Corporations buying public officials seems pretty simple.

a: politicians want to be elected, so they take money from businesses and pander to the public

b: politicians want to be elected, and all happen to be religious nuts, but not enough to follow the bible for themselves.

Being paranoid about the mixer isn't that crazy.

Some printers will cache the files printed, so you get an old printer from a goverment office, take the hard drive out, take a look in it, and there is a bunch of private documents.

Basically, if you don't need the money, I'd just mix up any old device in a blender.

IMO, guns, gays, and abortion are major issues that conservatives bleat about in order to energize their base. As pointed out above, the religious stuff is a put-on. These assholes are not true believers. The good 'ol boy dumbshits who vote for them are, which is why they front with it. Throw around some dog whistle terms about socialism and brown people and there you go -- you got your conservative base.

The hilarious thing right now is the emergence of the teabaggers. These are true believer freaks who think that their conservative politicians aren't conservative enough, so they run around crying about how all their rights are being trampled by the scary black man in office. They piss and moan about government interference in health care but are old geezers on Medicare, and have no fucking clue why that makes them retards. While they are mostly a joke, they do have enough power to torpedo some elections on the lower levels. Finally, the conservatives splinter off into smaller groups! Progressives have been dealing with this shit for years.

Corporate interests do run this country, don't get me wrong. While the politicians keep hammering their core social issues to freak out the voters, their hands are also out to take big business money. And yes, ALL politicians are corporate whores, even Obama. He's pretty much owned by Goldman Sachs.

And that's the slickest part of all. While those of us at the bottom are busy squabbling amongst ourselves about the fags, the brown "illegals" and all the whores getting abortions, the fuckers at the top laugh all the way to the bank. Divide and conquer, man.

Meanwhile, the douchebag Republicans have the fucking gall to filibuster unemployment benefits and then go on VACATION while hundreds of thousands of people get their benefits cut off. We spent hundreds of billions of dollars in Iraq without these assholes making a peep about government spending, but supporting our unemployed citizens who previously had been paying into that same system is a waste of money.
