I've got the same problem in iTunes. I assume it has to do with the RSS change made recently.

Well, I decided to screw iTunes, I'll just settle for two KATG entries under podcasts. Hey, twice as much KATG, right?

Anyway, I was listening to the show, and in defense of the Geronimo code word, I offer the following:

1. It's unambiguous on the radio. If you've ever listened to ATC, you know that they say "niner" instead of "nine." This is so that there is no confusion between "nine" and "five," which can sound similar over garbled staticy radio transmissions. If you heard "Geronimo," there's no mistaking what it is.

2. It's only familiar in the US. With Geronimo being a Native American name, there's a chance that anyone eavesdropping on the radio traffic (such as a normal Pakistani or Taliban bodyguard) won't know who or what Geronimo is. While those of us in the US are familiar with Geronimo being an Apache chief on the run, not too many in outside the US would know that. If they said, "Bin Laden in sight" or "Bearded One in sight" - everyone in the area would know they were talking about bin Laden.

I couldn't agree more

I can't believe how sensitive we have become in this Country. Geronimo, I mean really, offensive? Give me a break. I wish people would remember what Mama said, "sticks and stones will... Give it up people

Yeah, the whole Geronimo thing is ridiculous, and either Dan or Keith brought it up that Native American history is kind of a stagnant field in terms of hot pop culture press power, a nice bout of perceived racism can really help a college history department out with all it's funding needs.

At the college I went to, we have the only department for the study of the Holocaust on the west coast. It's not a coincidence that the foremost Holocaust denier on the west coast lives in a compound in the same county, not 20 miles away. He earned my school a lot of money over the years, just by being nearby.

Agreed.

And I loved Chemda talking about princess'. It is so true! I photograph weddings for a living and love them...they are a way to show off amazing aesthetics and throw a hell of a party. But the girls that get to be total bitches to their mom and then get to hear a speech later that night from her parents saying how amazing she is? I'm just happy I don't have to work with a ton of those types of girls...I can't stand them.

On a similar note, there was a chick complaining on facebook about how she isn't going to get her own mother's day...she had to spend the whole day pampering her mother. And that she DESERVES this day. Hell no, you don't DESERVE anything. Go be nice to your mom and stop whining. On mother's day, I told my husband to go play disk golf by himself and have a good time, I didn't bitch and cry because he didn't buy me diamonds.

Girls can really suck sometimes. There is this weird sense on entitlement that women have, they think that women's rights means women get to be superior over men, and it hurts "the cause" more than they know.

I second that. When he said that guy alienate their friends for a year just because they are getting laid, he couldn't have been more right. I was MIA for a year just because I was getting laid.

.
I think the real issue is that Native Americans aren't really American, nor are Indian leaders a part of the country's heroic narrative. Clearly, Geronimo was an obstacle for American freedom and had to be taken down for The Good of USA. Perfectly good reason for his wretched Un-American name to bless this operation.

I'm pretty sure the codename could have been "Lincoln" or "Martin Luther". (other famous assassinations). It's just a name.

I also like the idea that there is no more Native American history, are they all dead? Is this the case in the states and they're only alive in Canada and Mexico, Central and South America? Hmmm. Jesus, who have I been talking to, just a bunch of white men in redface?

Late but maybe

I'd like to shed a possible alternate view on why it's easier for Keith to accept Chemda being with a woman after him.

At some base level guys would prefer that a women they have sex with never sleep with another man, but it's deeper than that. At some primal level guys want to be the only man fucking. Throughout history men have had multiple wives, rarely have wives been allowed to have multiple husbands. Raping the wives of other men was considered a boon to war.
Men rage with testosterone, this crazy super drug that makes us want to kill and fuck. I read an interesting article from a women who was undergoing a sex change procedure and the testosterone treatment was the hardest part for her/him... rage and the desire to fuck everything that moved was terrifying.

Historically the strongest men were the ones who were able to have sex most frequently, and they fought to keep their women. Losing women was a sign of weakness... remember we are generally speaking a product of the strongest people... those that were most successful in living... those that could protect and mate. Society is a relatively modern invention, and rules had to be created to rope in our baser instincts. 2 of the ten commandments are basically to keep us from killing each other over sex and power (do not commit adultery (probably because your neighbor will try and kill you) and do not covet your neighbors wife (probably because you will try and kill your neighbor). Paired relationships are also very new idea. How many wives did Abraham have... divorce is an extremely new idea. So what's my point?

Modern man has been trained to repress the survival mechanisms that have been key to life for tens of thousands of years. Men were bred to compete against other men. The women they had, the more children they could produce (a survival win). Losing women to other men, and loosing the ability to breed was a survival loss. There was nothing in our evolutionary training that made us compete against women and women, there is no evolutionary playbook to tell us what that means.
