Chemda is right on the zoned school issue. It's a district's property tax revenue that finances the majority of education expenses. If a student gets expelled from a particular school, then he or she probably gets sent to another school within the district; worst case scenario being that a family must move if they've exhausted all their options within the district.

on the poll. i know a kid who brought a paint ball gun into school in 5th grade. he was the younger brother of one of my friends. i don't remember if he got suspended but he should have. he is mischievous to the core and i don't see how he will ever cope as an adult. yes suspension is mostly a punishment to the parent but they are the ones who let the kid get to that point.

on aliens and keiths movie taste. i don't know any of the numbers but we can only see a small portion of the whole universe and even if there were aliens in that small portion if would be very hard to detect them unless they are broadcasting out in to space like we are. i don't see how he can buy into spiderman's radio active spider or x-men's genetic mutations which are impossible but cant buy into aliens when that is at least possible if not very probable. i am not saying he should some how change his taste, a guy likes what they like, but just that it is illogical and i will never understand.

Just like the kid flipping his shit w/ the wood trim multiple times, the school definitely should exercise the right to keep their school & their students safe & expel him. Hopefully, they get this kid help & make sure he's not the guy coming back to school at 17 w/ his daddy's 1911. It could have just been a goof, but BB guns aren't harmless. It is a shitty thing to have your eyesight destroyed b/c you are in class w/ a dick one day.

About there being alien life, I think it is very likely. Now, intelligent alien life is a completely other story. So far, other than speculation on UFOs, we are absolutely alone for all we know. Intelligent life, from what we've learned from what comprises us & this planet & what it takes to create life as we have here, is a very unique, rare thing. Out of all the species on Earth, thru all known history, thru possible, multiple mass extinctions, we are the only intelligent life form that we know of that has sprung up during these resets of sorts. The thought of being the only intelligent life form is very exciting, but very scary. To be the only self aware beings in this incomprehensibly vast space. What a thought.

One thing that relates to that is, the SETI project was shut down recently. If someone doesn't know, that is a program where we basically monitor space for radio waves & attempt to find signatures of sorts in them. It was a casualty of budget cuts, which I think is a mistake. There are many things that can get shaved down before a comparatively inexpensive project that could yield world-changing results. I don't know what it says, if anything, about what scientists think about the possibility of intelligent alien life. Either way, it is pretty interesting.

Keith you are correct the Playstation Network is easier to use.

1. Turn on your PS3
2. Attempt to sign in
3. Read message 'The Playstation Network is currently undergoing maintenance'
4. Play single player game

Regarding the poll, I agree with Keith. When I first heard this story, my initial reaction was "oh hell no." Because I was feeling black. As Chemda went on to explain that the kid was probably more mischievous than malicious, I began to see her point a little bit, but the fact that my gut reaction was an absolute no says something. Schools are fucking dangerous now. I was lucky enough to go to a small Catholic high school that was very safe, but I don't believe for a second that that's the case everywhere. School shootings are certainly on the rise, and just because this particular incident was with a BB gun in the fourth grade doesn't mean that it's still another indicator of a very real threat. Chemda's right when she said he's not a bad kid; I don't think that was really the issue. The thing is, he's not a safe kid if he's so hungry for attention that he's bringing a gun to school.

And besides, most schools (mine did at least) have a pretty strict no-weapons policy. Isn't just bringing one grounds for expulsion anyway?

its grounds but not a for sure thing as far as i know. a kid i know had a machete in his trunk that he was using to build a paint ball course in the woods behind one of his friends house the day Hillary( or maybe it was Obama) came to give a speech at our high school and he got suspended for 2 weeks. i don't think it should be a strict you have a weapon you get suspended/expelled. i brought i swiss army knife into school in fifth grade because i forgot it in my winter coat, i didn't get caught but i don't think me nor the kid i know deserved a suspension/expulsion.

I'm always shocked when I hear these stories about the post office, the airport, and now Gamestop. Is every service person an asshole in New York? The worst that happens here is that you get a teenager who doesn't give a shit and smashes your groceries together all crazy when they bag, or they sit there and talk to their friend and take fifty years to get through the order.

If they're required to ask you why you're returning a game, just say, "I finished it." Then they can mark it on their stupid survey or whatever and be done with it. These nerds will accept it, too, because they all finish the game in two days and return it for a new one anyway.

Dolphins, Apes, and Elephants are self aware.
