What bothers me about the whole Strauss-Kahn thing is the rush to judgement. The perp walk etc. It was a French owned hotel and the case exploded via twitters from France. The IMF is currently a mess with bailouts all over the map...
MAYBE it was consensual sex and the maid freaked out?? She first called her brother and he called in the legal beagles who in turn called the cops. They had him arrested within hours. Amazingly quick work. The language in the stories was he was "fleeing". The flight was pre-booked? He checked out of the hotel and had lunch with his daughter?? He IS a great example of a slimeball womanizer but that IS a national sport in France. Convenient way to get rid of a powerful opponent who was widely considered to be the front runner in the next election, no? He openly wondered whether his fortune, womanizing and Jewishness would play out in the election run-up. Ta Da! The twitter sphere contains some interesting tidbits posted by those who sit opposite him in the French political world. NYT "they suggested that he had lunch with his daughter before boarding the plane to make a flight that had been reserved in advance, that he may have checked out of his hotel before lunch with his daughter, and that he may have had lunch after the alleged attack took place. In other words, they suggested, he did not flee in haste, as the police had said in their comments on the case." Another question raised was about the timing of the flood of Twitter posts around the scandal, with the first one reportedly sent by a French student who is a member of Mr. Sarkozy’s center-right party. It was at 4:59 p.m. New York time that J_Pinet posted this message on Twitter: “A friend in the United States just told me that DSK was arrested by police in a hotel an hour ago.” Twenty-four minutes later, a post by Arnaud Dassier, who ran Mr. Sarkozy’s online election campaign in 2007, spread the news further, apparently before any New York newspaper. Mr. Dassier is a shareholder in the Web site Atlantico.fr, which Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s allies accused this month of disseminating photographs of him and his wife getting into a Porsche in a bid to tarnish his reputation with common voters. On Monday, Atlantico published what it said were reports from the police and the French Consulate in New York about the case, asserting that Mr. Strauss-Kahn had scratches on his back and that he left traces of DNA behind. This IS being played up HUGE... FRANCE-popup.jpg Last edited by Tech007; 05-18-2011 at 09:32 AM. |

Yeah, and you also think the US was directly militarily involved in the 2008 South Ossetia War. If you required as little evidence against individuals as you do entire governments, you would think this guy should be in jail already.
Tech: anti-USA, pro-rapist. Why am I not surprised? |

If he is a rapist and if it is true that this isn't even the first woman he's assaulted, what a convenient way to cast doubt on the assertions of his future victims by publicly claiming that his enemies will try to use his sexy times against him. |

"Conspiracy theory" is a euphemism for "fucking dumbest and least likely thing anyone can think of", and Tech will believe any conspiracy theory at the drop of a hat. He is gold star crazy, even by internet standards.

Get your friggin facts straight Bob. "Georgia itself is a major transit point for Central Asian oil; three huge pipelines cross its territory, all controlled by U.S. and British corporate interests. The largest, the Baku-Tbilsi-Ceyhan pipeline, was made profitable by the huge spike in oil prices driven by the U.S. attack on Iraq." And here I direct you to page 28. Comments? http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/row/RL34618.pdf And what about this on page 4? "Simultaneously with the Russian military exercise, about 1,000 U.S. troops, 600 Georgian troops, and token forces from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine conducted an exercise in Georgia, code-named Immediate Response 2008, aimed at increasing troop interoperability for NATO operations and coalition actions in Iraq" And here are some pretty pictures too. Will you be needing my birth certificate as well Mr. Cretaceous? Quote:

it is true that a good way to get rid of a potential political opponent is to accuse them of sexual abuse.
Still if this lady doesnt deny the accusations, its rape. Plus, in cases of sexual harssment, better safe then sorry. |

I heard on NPR this morning that the detectives on the scene questioned the maid repeatedly and they reported that her allegations seemed real. She was also interviewed by Special Victims Unit (eeep! I can't wait for the "ripped-from-the-headlines episode!) and they also thought she was legit. Who knows what happened, but those detectives are trained to sniff out a liar and squash it.
