I'm not sure how to answer the poll. Mark's lying is annoying, but it's not like he's hurting anyone. But, I also wouldn't hang out with him, because it seems kinda pointless.

Decisions.

I'll abstain. Wouldn't want to ruin the science.

I voted "no," but I was lying.

Actually, that was a lie just now. I didn't vote.

I was lying when I said I abstained because I didn't want to ruin the science. I'm just allergic to voting.

Okay, that wasn't the truth, but I didn't want to talk about my lies anymore.

He is What He is

This is the most honest I've ever heard Mark be. Or is it?

The moment I started accepting people for their flaws, the easier it became for me to be a comedian and be around comedy. I definitely have flaws and faults and Mark deals with them and I deal with his. It's kind of a system of checks and balances in terms of neurosis. Any comic who calls Mark out on his bullshit is then forced to own up to their own mistakes. I find it annoying that Mark lies but I do think there are a lot of worse things a person can do and as he says, most of his lies are inconsequential. In terms of stand-up he's one of the least delusional and easygoing people I know, not to mention one of the hardest working.

Does he have a crippling fear of confrontation that keeps him from being honest with people? Yeah, but guess what? A lot of people do. Many people will tell a comic "Good set" when they don't mean it or click attending on a Facebook event they never plan on going to. He just does it to a noticeable point. But it doesn't take away from his good qualities. People don't book him because he lies his way on to shows. They do it, because he shows up on time and gets the job done on a highly consistent level.

About the secret service "monitoring" fox. The twitter moderator is probably a PR drone, possibly even an intern given the task watching news stories about the client so that they can summarize it, or enumerate any mistakes for the boss. Social media is another task usually relegated to the lowest rung on the PR ladder.

I'm the social media moderator for my job, and while it's true that I'm the lowest paid and least experienced in my department, I at least know a lot about social media, unlike a lot of people who will get the job at a lot of other companies. Secret Service's PR probably gave the job to an intern without thinking about the consequences or the impact of a mistake.

Out of the thousands of tweets I send, I accidentally tweeted a personal tweet from my work account once. I deleted it immediately, but not before my manager saw it. I got a talking to, but since no one else saw it, and no one re-tweeted it, it was mostly a reminder to be extra-vigilant.

I like Mark Normand. I would have him as a friend any day because he means well; although frustrating as it may be.

Being a stand-up comic, he creates stories for a living. I guess that makes lying in real-life easy for him.

after hearing the whole thing, hye doesnt sound like he does it maliciously. actually it feels like this thing is more of an issue for him, rather than anyone else.

the lies he tells dont seem damaging lies, although they're very very silly. unfair to compare him to danny, mark's lies werent cunning crap done to damage others.

He's wrong, but in an inoffensive way.

ADD: interesting how Mrk got really really nicer to hear after this. he seemed to have a genrally tense and buttoned up tone in the past episodes and in this one he's much more pleasant. I think he won me with this

I voted that his lying is wrong, but I don't think it would prevent me from liking him or being friendly with him. I had an acquaintance in HS who lied compulsively. Other kids were offended that she "wasn't genuine" but I thought it was great. She had an amazing life, it was all fiction, but her stories were exciting and interesting. But the reason she was my acquaintance and not my friend is because she never told my anything real. Yeah she was fun and interesting, but I didn't know her, she never told me a single real thing about her life.

The funniest thing about that, and I swear this is true, is we're both named Marina, and a few years ago I stopped into a sandwich shop in the town I went to school in, after a long absence. The lady behind the counter heard my name, mistook me for her and started asking me how "my" parents were. At first I was confused, but then realized she had the wrong Marina. I tried to tell her I was another Marina, but she just said "right, well, tell your parents I said hi." Aside from both being curly haired fat brunettes, we're almost nothing alike, in fact she's about 4 inches taller than me, but I guess the lady hadn't seen Marina in quite some time, and although she completely forgot what she looked like, she remembered enough to call me a liar when I tried to explain the mistaken identity.

The kind of lying that Mark does is fine by me, it makes life a little more interesting. But at the end of the day, I have one exciting liar acquaintance, but lots more friends and the exciting liar acquaintance doesn't have any friends at all.
