Regarding News of the World, the news this morning is that a former NY cop and current private investigator has alleged that the paper contacted him wanting to hack the phones of 9/11 victims, too. Right now this story appears to be in the gossip stages.

yeah, I live here...nothing much has changed in my life, except carpool lanes are closed and you can't camp in the state parks. The gov keeps telling repubs he'll meet them halfway, they are saying no because they don't want to go back on campaign promises.

SPACE SHUTTLE QUIZ

So when Keith alluded to the price of gas and a shuttle launch I chuckled. Then he said "what a waste of oil"... and I became sad....

QUIZ TIME
[1] The space shuttle is powered by:
(a) O2, and a bunch of science stuff which has little to do with oil, or oil prices
(b) 95 Octane premium BP, the grade that has a little spaceship logo next to it

[2] Space shuttle launch is prompted by:
(a) dozens of NASA nerds located in a building far away from the actual shuttle
(b) the space shuttle captain puts his space key in the space ignition and presses the space accelerator. Also, he is the only person on board in charge of the space radio, the space AC, and the space windshield wipers.

[3] What can be found past regular rain systems that is such a problem for shuttle launches?
(a) atmospheric launch windows, thermal fluctuations, and ice, also rocks, and space junk
(b) deadly upside down space rain which falls from the tops of clouds into space (this rain would soak the shuttle's engines of course and so it ranks purple on the space danger scale)

[4] Why wasn't Keith impressed with the fact that the shuttle reaches speeds of 28,000 KpH?
(a) Keith forgot that 28,000 KpH is about 25,000 feet per second and the average rifle bullet flies at 3200 fps (from military training)
(b) Keith knows numbers way bigger than 28000

------------------------

Didn't mean to be snooty, just funny. We are wasting money on so many things, and yes NASA is a gigantic mess but it's our only reach for the stars. NASA is a fraction of a percent of the entire annual budget, why not let the nerds try to reach for the sky?

Space is cool.

I say pump more money into space flights and US education. That way all of us have a chance to score a good grade on the above quiz.
