But I wasn't there, I am no expert. If he was that crazy than that just says something about the general intelligence of the German people circa 1930s-40s. Their loss, they can keep hither, we got Einstein.

I can't really listen to Americans talk about how objectively bad Hitler was when romanticizing the Confederacy is as accepted as it is here.

Systematically brutalize people in a foreign land? Baaad. Systematically brutalize people in our own land? We'll name schools and roads after you.

The evidence that the German people were no more unwitting or blind or stupid than anyone else exists right here in the United States. Just look at all the people trying to scrub the racism off of not only a racist ideology, but one of the most purely, thoroughly, and militantly racist causes to exist in modern times.

Not only that, but all research grants get at least 30% of the total amount hacked off the top for general administrative costs at the institution of the researcher (in this case, Hunter College/CUNY's general fund). They may also entirely cover the salary of a couple of graduate students (~$30k/year each) or one post-doc researcher (~$60k-90k/year), as well as tuition, over the lifetime of the grant. This blog post from a professor of engineering gives you a good idea about how the money breaks down.

It's not outrageous because 900,000 went to fund an entire university department, of which the "penis study" was one guy just crunching some numbers as part of the effort to interpret the data.

The report that brought this "outrageous study" to the public eye was released by Traditional Values Coalition, a Christian Rights lobby group that undoubtedly has a homophobic agenda. Hence, there is no attempt by them to demonstrate how much of the funding was actually dedicated to this paper and what the vast majority of the funding went to.

Here is some context to show funding university programs is not what's bankrupting our government:
