there will never be peace in the middle east. and im not saying this out of some attempt at being an ass or pushing buttons.
i realized this when i heard the interviews made with politcians, activcists or even average people on the BBD newshour coverage of the Gillaad case. it might've been a coincidence, or biased, i dont know. and i possibly do not understand the mentality of people who live there or what theyve gone through. But they do not want peace. they want each their own demands to be met and none of the two has any interest in compromise. also the whole thing has been going on fgor so long that i have the impression that the mentality of the extremists has trickled into the heads of average people too. They arent interested in peace, they will keep fighting until the other part surrenders or is wiped out. |

as a side note: why were americans so criticized when they celebrated Bin Laden's death but these people chant for "triumph and rebellion", while discharging guns in the air and no one seems to be bothered by that?
just saying, im in favour of both celebrations, just curious on where the "you dont celebrate a person's deth are right now" |

Because a different culture is "their way." No way that can be wrong. We're civilized. That doesn't mean they're animals though...

i swear on whats most sacred: this morning, on a newspaper, ive read an article by a renowned columnist that started with "killing a harmless human being and celebrating degrades humanity, no matter if it's Qaddafi, Bin Laden or Jesus".
this world has too much freedom of speech. |

I'm only 30 minutes into this episode and I am appalled at the amount of ignorance in all your opinions on the Middle East. Especially the generalizing and grouping the whole Middle East together as unstable, poor and hateful.
Go read up on some behind the scenes stuff and see what rich Arab countries have been financially supporting America for years....Busta Rhymes didn't make that song for nothing. Anyways, jokes aside..I was definitely disappointed in the stuff said in this episode. Particularly from Chemda because I'd expect this from Keith. |

Whatevs. The Middle East is, generally, very poor. Poverty breeds instability. Instability and poverty together helps those who want to instill hate. There's money in the Middle East (mostly oil and natural gas money), but it is concentrated in the hands of a select few, either royalty or dictatorial regimes. They live it up while the rest of the region doesn't develop economically. |

I think Finnegan had an interesting point about saying something so vague and general like "they're all monsters". This reminds me of when people say something like "we need to go to war" for every issue there is in the world, or "we need peace" for everything. Because it leads to the question, "and then what?" War doesn't work for everything, and not going to war doesn't always work either. It's always a combination of these different things that leads to some kind of resolution. |
