Strokes can affect peoples behaviour in many ways, just as brain operations and accidents can. When I was in my 20's, and I was going to Church, we had a man who was deeply religious, until he had a stroke, and he became an atheist over night. I knew another in my 30's who was a good father, loving husband and teetotaller before his stroke, but afterwards didn't want to know his children, wife, took up drinking and womanising.

There have been a number of studies published that report of changes in behaviour, sexuality, religious beliefs, etc after an individual has a stroke or has had brain damage in some way. For instance Phineas P. Gage had a large iron rod was driven completely through his head yet survived. His behaviour changed completely after the accident to the point that people claimed he wasn't the real Gage.

From Bonnie's Twitter stream, a family reunion picture. I doubt this will be helpful, but who knows?
