A 16oz cup with ice is less than a can of soda.

Keith mentioned later in this episode that it's not like we're going to go from a soda ban to loosing free speech. The government has already successfully limited free speech in a lot ways; in many places you have to apply for a government protest permit in order to have a free speech rally- even if the very thing you're protesting is the government. Ever heard of "free speech zones?" That's when the government says you can't have free speech unless you're standing in a secluded cordoned off area; who cares what the constitution says.

The most egregious example of government overreach is the national defense authorization act. Remember when the constitution guarantees the right to due process, a speedy trial, and that persons accused of crimes are innocent until proven guilty? Well that act authorizes indefinite jail time without charges, and without a trial, even if you're an American citizen. The soda ban is simply one more example of the cancer our government has become. Liberty does die slowly, and even fat people have rights. But please, continue on in ignorance since it hasn't affected your life... yet. Unless of course you find yourself really thirsty one day.

Who's the idiot? You're comparing a soda ban to military action against a genocidal dictator! It's not even an example of social change, and has nothing to do with the United States. Furthermore, Kony is in hiding and hasn't been terrorizing anyone for many years- something those poor, helpless people managed to accomplish without us. What a great reason to continue adding to the US deficit. Which is 15.7 trillion dollars by the way; look how much we as a large entity can "achieve!"
a. They're not telling you what size of soda you can buy. They're regulating vendors. It's not against the rules to buy any sized soda. It's simply against the rules for certain vendors to sell large sugared sodas. Some vendors can't sell alcohol. Some can't sell certain types of food.

Even if that was the case, it'd still be a net social good, but you can't even get this regulation right.

b. The government has moved to block the sale of violent video games to minors, and as a result a strong self-enforcing mechanism within the industry has done a lot of work to ensure that kids don't get their hands on said games, barring parental neglect.

How is that a bad thing?

c. What does this have to do with freedom of speech? This is pure slippery slope garbage.

d. Yeah, the big problem with government is definitely that Americans don't have access to soda.

If you measured the success of government by how much access its citizens had to sugared soda, the US has the best government in the history of the world. But yeah, our liberty is in such danger because I can't by a barrel of soda at McDonald's. That's definitely the beginning of Farenheit 451 right there.

Sorry, but your logic doesn't make any sense. The degree to which you're criticizing government intervention here makes me beg the question: what governmental regulation, if any, is valid?

e. Deficit hawking is a silly exercise in general, but it's particularly dumb with respect to Kony, seeing as our support there is ludicrously inexpensive.
