I'm not sure the reason is small breasts, but Keith is correct in saying that some mothers simply do not produce enough milk to breast-feed. I also know at least one woman who couldn't breast feed because of thrush. Bloomberg wants the formula to be under lock and key and only offered when medically necessary, but he also wants mothers to be required to hear a lecture on why the breast is best.
This article says that formula companies give their product away for free to hospitals in the hopes that the mothers will stick to their brand after they go home: Bloomberg's breast-feeding plan: Will locking up formula help new moms? - CNN.com I'm not sure this change will do anything. The article says that 90% of New York mothers start out breast-feeding, but 60% of them switch to formula within two months. Sounds like it's something else, like maybe lack of support at work, that leads them to stop. If they don't have a place and time to pump, and a place to keep their milk, they can't really maintain their breast feeding and have to switch to formula.

I think it is a lack of understanding, and also women give up too fast. I will not go into all my breastfeeding details, but it ISN'T easy...and everyone says, "oh don't you love this bonding experience?" and not everyone does. Milk can take a month to come in sometimes, and if you have one bit of trouble feeding you feel like a failure, and you're sleep deprived with a baby screaming at you. But breastfeeding is best for the baby, and the formula companies do have an unfair advantage of advertising. In the 50's a big majority of women used formula...it was quick and easy...this was the age of TV dinners, so why not? All of this stuff is cyclical. We are totally starting to head back to the hippie age once everyone gets sick enough of the commercialism. I feel the same about CSections. Women are electing to do it, decide it is easier and less painful. In California, they have a thing called a C tuck. You get a C section and a tummy tuck at the same time. Makes it sound all glamorous and easy right? They have NO idea how harmful, painful, expensive and frustrating Csections are, as well as not being as good for the baby. |

I saw a documentary about the 100m sprint final from the 1988 Olympics where 6 of the 8 runners tested positive to doping. They talked to all involved including one of the scientists who did the testing at the time. He still has the samples from those games and he recently decided to retest them to see what turns up now they have better technology. After 50 tests he stopped in horror because every sample turned up multiple drugs - someone that was caught using one thing at the time was actually using 5. He thought if he kept on going, what was he going to do with the info? Rewrite the entire history of the olympics?
It sucks losing your hair but if a woman loves you she doesn't care. |

I really think Bloomberg would gain a lot more respect on this issue if he was a woman. So until the sex change operation he should STFU!

Though it isn't true that the body won't provide milk anymore. It takes a while for that to leave your body and actually someone who has never had a baby can make themselves lactate if they practice and really want to do it. There are mothers that had a baby via surragate and can still breastfeed. |

The same thing happens with natural birth...american women are scared to have babies because we see women screaming and turning into monsters in movies and on tv. Half of the pain comes from fear, but no one sits down and talks about the plusses and minuses of all the birthing options... |

I felt like there was a bit of hypocrisy from Chemda in this episode. In the past she's talked about how sex is everything and how she felt bad for people who didn't have sex regularly, then in this episode she basically said it was okay.
So if someone just isn't interested in having sex, does that make them a loser who's missing out on something, or do they just have different priorities? |

Now that I think about it, I guess those antidepressants weren't really doing their job. |
