I remember back in high school when I was in heath class during sex ed. The teachers brought in this woman who showed the class the difference in a woman's vagina based on whether she's a virgin or not. I was front row center and started laughing because i was nervous.
Oh o can't you see love is the drug for me |

They didn't come from negative places but you have a good point. I'll work on that.

Danny called me a douche, so I guess I should be happy about that. Perhaps getting nachos in for our hanging out.
Here's my tweet, which was referred to in the show: "Good shows, I'd say 95% of normal. Just a little less nervous laughter; you don't need it." I did mean it positively. To characterize it as, 'I guess it was good, while Keith's in the hospital,' is worsening what I said. (Also, for your information, that voice you and Lawrence did: I don't sound like that, and I don’t appreciate it). When I sent it, I was worried 95% was too high, and Keith would be offended. There are 50% of the normal hosts. To clarify the one criticism I was making, without the 140 character limit: To me it seems show hosts that are great and successful have an almost superhuman ability to seem like they're in control. And the VAST majority of the time I think Chemda does seem in complete control, even in this unusual time without Keith. I just felt there were moments when it was more like a bar conversation. Chemda mentioned being nervous, so I thought some laughs could be that, or perhaps were unnecessarily exaggerated to show a guest's joke was funny, or perhaps were the result of a personal emotional investment that I'm not privy to. All I can really say is I wouldn’t have laughed so much hearing what she heard (imagining myself in the room). It overlaps with the point made on KATG a couple of months ago, about how when someone laughs less, it means more. But let me also be clear: Chemda is way, way better than if tomorrow I, or any average person, were to host the show. I have a 15mbps broadband connection, and there’s no state censorship in my country, so I don't spend time on stuff that I don’t genuinely consider good. It’s Homeland, it’s KATG -KA, it’s The Daily Show (I skip over the guest inevitably promoting their book), it’s The News Quiz. Thousands of shows with Keith, only a couple of dozen solo, good is good, it’s above average for expectations of a show losing a long-term host. Kaplan was on a different track with voluntary/involuntary. I think nervous laughter (and the stuff described above) can be, and usually is, without thinking/deciding about it. Just my opinion, but I thought you might want outside feedback. I could find timecode examples of what I mean, but I doubt you care SO much what I think. Plus, I'm a busy man with important time-wasting to crack on with. I hear Jon Stewart named Hugh Grant as his least favorite guest, and it's the assignment of the hour to find out why. Joe |
