It's so dumb to be like 'Hey Keith, bet you wish you lived in Canada' - but American healthcare fees are so fucked up. But many Americans don't want to pay higher taxes to make a free healthcare system (The state can't tell me what to do with MY money!), so the people who need healthcare have to mortgage their house to afford it.
I'd donate to a second KATG fundraiser to help Keith out, so let's get it together |

Man, listening to this episode was difficult.
My heart very seriously breaks for those American's who get stuck with outrageous hospital bills. The way Chemda was talking was so completely foreign to me... she referred to patients as the hospitals "customers" and was reading the hospitals yelp page as if it was a restaurant or bar. The idea of a hospital even having online reviews just makes no sense to me. I gartunee you that if a 38 year old man in Ontario had this same problem, he would have been in the hospital immidiately, given the proper amount of tests and treatment and then released as soon as he was healthy enough to go home. There is no concept of squeezing extra money out of the customer or "upselling" with further tests. All he would have been billed for would be the long distance phone calls he made on his private phone line during his stay. |
