And just so ya know Keith, it *IS* illegal for them to strike. For every day on strike, striking employees can be fined 2 days pay. Can you imagine going back to work, after not working for say..10 days, and have to also pay 20 days pay. Damn would that suck.

I'd like to say: I only said I knew that nothing would happen regarding the strike FRIDAY. As for the illegal part and them being fined, they make deals so that they get more money to cover whatever fines they get, so whatever. Just arrest them all and replace them. I know they're scary talented; I see it daily. But let's replace them anyway.

Their union has been saving up money for just this occasion since the last
strike. That's 25 years worth of saved up dough. With this money they
pay the owed+regular salaries of the striking people.

They should have threatened to strike before the election.
Also, it pisses me off about the mayor walking the brooklyn bridge with
people. That guy lives in manhattan. He had someone drive him to
brooklyn to the office of emergency management or whatever so he could
walk the bridge for the media.

Keith, it'd be damn near impossible to prepare enough scabs to break the
strike effectively. You'd have to train them properly because the insurance
probably wouldnt cover untrained people just driving the train. And if you've
seen that "documentary" "New York Underground" movie about the subway
you've seen the caliber of people who drive the trains.
But other than that, I'd love to drive the train for a day or 2.

The Union has to pay their own fines as well, which will most likely be in the millions of dollars. I'm sure that it will all work out for them somehow...but it seems like the union could just take all the money they have and pay the employees more themselves...or better yet..not make them pay dues in the first place, so the employees actually have more money. If this was back in the day, the president would call out the army, and this strike would be taken care of. Cleveland did it and got away with it. I have a feeling if Bush tried it, the country would freak out and just explode. I could see the headlines: "Bush has turned the Army lose on NY and is taking over as Emperor."
