Once upon a time, before the auto-mo-bile, people walked and guns were necessary to hunt food to continue to, you know, live.
Vehicles are necessary tools, eh? Ask Chemda. Ask, probably, 75% of NYC. (Which is weird because you'll see a Ferrari F40 parked in the same alley as a taxi cab with no bumper). The primary use of a vehicle is transportation - I'll agree there... However that doesnt mean it can't be abused in the wrong or careless hands and used for another purpose, like firearms. Sauce: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...nd-irrelevant/ Firearms can be specific to injury and death, but can also be used for sport, hunting, target competition. Just like a car can be used as a rolling explosive device, or a people plow under control of a drunk driver. It all depends on the end user whether it's used for good or evil. |

The point missed in my post was MANUFACTURED PURPOSE. The original manufactured purpose of a gun is to KILL or INJURE (whether for hunting or war). The original manufactured purpose for any vehicle is transportation.
Passenger Jets were invented to be vehicles for transportation and yet they were used as guided missiles. This is not my point. Anything can be used to kill or injure, but only firearms were originally manufactured, invented, by the Chinese to kill soldiers faster and in greater numbers than swords. They were only later found to be useful for hunting, etc. The purpose of target practice, "Sport", is to be better at killing your opponent, injuring your target, practicing to KILL and injure. You do not practice driving to get better at mowing down pedestrians. You certainly do not practice driving drunk to get better at killing families in their SUVs. I predict that the next firearm apologist is going to make the argument "NO! How dare you! You practice shooting at targets and inanimate objects to get better at shooting targets and inanimate objects!" To which I will preemptively reply "Stop it. Stop your stupid arguing and realize that firearms have one true purpose and you denying that is only making you look dumber." And to any other arguments being made about secondary uses for common household objects, machines, or tools... STOP IT! You know what I mean. The first, invented purpose. The REASON for a firearm existing is to kill. Period. Last edited by Zomniac; 08-31-2014 at 08:41 PM. |

Fucking Hell. You cannot win with gun nuts can you, Keith? It's all loopholes and gotchas.
And Play-doh was originally designed to be a wallpaper remover, and Viagra was originally designed to be a blood-pressure regulation drug. You specifically picked Lysol because it's the most insane snake-oil original purpose product you could get your hands on. The point is, so what? Guns is guns is guns is guns. Show me where in history anyone has ever said, "The firearm was originally designed for war, but we exclusively, with warning labels and everything, use them for hunting and target practice now." Yes, there are strange outliers to every argument, congratulations, you fucking found one. Now, back to the grown-up talk. |
