2199: Thoughts and Prayers

Removing the symbol is the first step in removing the hate. There's nothing left to stand behind, to defend, to propagate bullshit hateful ideas and have people believe they are acceptable.
Living in an area where this is flag and the sentiments behind it are hovering over daily life can be uncomfortable in the least, violent at the worst. I know the flag is a side-bar to the actual problem that started the conversation, but I'm thrilled it's being removed. I'm also thrilled my governor was the first to take it down.

BTW, Jackie Martling's call today was my favorite yet, so great to hear him talk about his life like the usual guests do. Great show all around.

There should have been a poll option for "I'm not an American". I would have picked that. I voted honestly, because that flag's history means bugger-all to me. But if you go down that road, how much does that flag mean to a hipster in Portland (for example)?

you know, i've often thought if i really put my mind to it, i could coalesce and run a cult for a short while before my iron fist became untenable, as it has a tendency to do. ain't the first time i've been accused of actin' a tyrant.
