I always make sure I'm the first person to pay the bill when there's a group. I figure out my cost, and add a tip. I've had it one too many times where i'm the last one to get the bill, I've got all the money from everyone else. And somehow my 25$ bill ballooned to 45$ because some dumb fucks refused to tip or put less money in because well I just had an appetizer... blah blah blah....

I'm with Keith... come late to the restaurant and just get your own bill...

Here a waiter when they bring the bill will pretty much always ask "together or split"?
And then the group can decide whether we just want to evenly split the bill or everybody just pays what they had and settles that separately with the waiter. Quickly dividing and adding up amounts per person is part of the job skill for the waiter.

Of course there is still the potential that somebody forgets they had something but figuring out "hey who had the cherry cake" at the end is easier to solve than "oh somehow we are missing $10"

You wouldn't feel petty trying to find out who had the cherry coke?

Keith I'm sorry that you have to hang out with shady people that make you feel like a petty asshole for asking who didn't pay their part AFTER you all agreed that you split the bill. Must be a celebrity problem.

What if it's a large group? Everyone's so focused on the bill?

I forget you're from Germany sometimes though. You guys are historically great people.

It's the same thing in Canada. Everyone pays for their own stuff if it's just a regular get-together, and not a special occasion (like a birthday or anniversary). People keep track of what they consumed. The waiter always asks whether the bills are separate or together, half-and-half, whatever.

It's surprisingly drama-free and doesn't take up that much extra time.

Oh joy we are are already at Nazi jokes I thought that would take at least until Scumhook woke up. But Godwin's law is just too damn powerful.

Anyway your next joke setup is that I am a sad lonely weirdo because I rarely hang out in groups of more than 6-8 people and that's not enough to make any problems in splitting the bill.

Is that how the Germans handle Nazi comments?

"Oh great. There you go again about our Nazis... Real mature..."

Yes.
We are all assholes and don't know how to behave which is exactly what you were getting to with your comment so why act surprised now?
