I love this idea because it also advertises to fellow citizens that it's voting day and calls out the people who haven't voted.

Okay that sounds snarky but it's 1:30 am and I had quite a bit of wine tonight ... How the fuck does your country even run?
How do you collect taxes if you don't know who / where a person is? And if you can identify somebody for taxes but not for voting? Could I just walk into a polling place in 2 weeks and vote in the primaries? I should book my next vacation around that just to fuck with your system. There were these coin toss primaries right? Didn't Jeb spent thousands of dollars on each vote? I can get a flight to the US & a hotel for much cheaper - politicians should just start flying in young backpackers from Europe to vote for them. Win - win |

That makes a little more sense. How do I get on the list for being allowed to vote though? Can you and Marisela and Cat sign me up because I don't need ID? You do need to register to vote right? So by registering first you know your name will be on the list? So there is no danger of somebody using your fake name? As I said I'm confused I do get that it's logistically unreasonable but that is a terrible argument. Last edited by Lanfear; 04-07-2016 at 07:10 PM. |

German governance is like an Oompah music. American governance is like jazz - with a federal jazz band that is playing one song and each of the state governments playing their own songs, and the city governments have their own songs, and they all do their best to make sure they do not align with each other. But when you listen to that music it somehow comes together ... and thats how dubstep was invented. Hope this helped. On a serious note, there is good reasons why information doesn't not flow between various arms of the the government and arms of the public service. The more the government knows bout you the more they can use that information against the populace. I would have thought Germany would be the one place where that would be fought against. It seems that American's do not trust their government for no apparent reason, and German's do trust their government when there is very good reason not to.

Thank goodness for Chemda being born and raised in New York. I like Carolyn, saw her in Union Hall before, but god is she living in a magical bubble. No nannies in Park Slope?! Kids in NYC are sweeter than kids in the country? Must be nice to live in that universe. We may not be huffing spray paint or shooting cans with a bb gun in the backyard but folks in the country probably aren't selling crack in middle school or shooting bottles with a pistol to get better aim to shoot people.

Get this, though. This is how absurd the voter ID laws are. Voter information is public record (except for some private stuff) and yet in-person fraud does not happen. You can literally get a list of people who are registered to vote in your area with all the info you need to vote on their behalf but in-person fraud doesn't happen because it's so difficult to pull off. Requiring ID to vote disenfranchises millions while protecting against an imaginary crime. It's complete bullshit. |
