Chemda, I know live is hard and you live in America.
But riding the bike for work uninsured can be even worse than this. Imagine, he hits someone and gets sued for millions.
This job is extremely risky without insurance.
And it's somehow unfair that the company lets him freelance and take all the risk.

1. Go to V*st*pr*nt.com. (Do they have a Google Alert for their name? I don't know; just in case.)
2. Order 500 cards with a fake name, e-mail address, and phone number.
2a. Use code KATG at checkout.
3. Put 494 of those cards right into the trash.
4. Put the remaining 6 cards in your wallet.
5. Ding a car.
6. Pull out your small stack of cards; give one to the other party or leave it at the scene of the incident.
7. Throw away the remaining 5 cards--they're your "burner phone".
8. Go to step one, with a new fake name, e-mail address, and phone number.

Dang Hennessy, this sucks. IMO, this is a bill like any other, and the amount you pay will be a negotiation. The most you'll pay is $1800, and the least is $0.

Some options:

1. Do nothing. Stop responding to emails, texts, whatever.
2. Tell them that $1800 is too much, and make a counter offer. Then it's a haggle. Let Chemda drive.
3. Ask to make payments.

Some combination of these 3 options are probably the most optimal solution. This claim is small enough that they could sue you in small claims court. I looked up the rules for NYS small claims court here, and the document is fairly informative and short.

I am not a lawyer. Good luck Bro. Don't beat yourself up too much, shit happens.

Adding to Flerchin's comment, two other important things to remember:
  1. Ask for an itemized costs for the repairs and the contact information of the mechanic.
  2. The most you would have to pay in legal court is the cost to make it whole. The cost to repair to the state of the car at the time of the accident. If the car is three years old, then a court would only make you pay up to return it to that of a three year old car. People try to abuse this and get things repaired to a brand new state.

Ask for three itemized estimates from three different repair shops with one being a dealership.
