Not packing it up does make it seem like that's the only reason you don't keep it, which makes it littering which makes you dead. But I think leaving it set up is better than throwing in the garbage because someone will take it and feel better about taking it because they earned it by taking it down. Plus you just seem forgetful rather than a dead litterer walking.

The park rangers have to deal with it. They make the rounds after check-out time, find an empty tent, then they put it in storage. They could charge you for this.....

"Camping equipment is not permitted to stay on site once the stay is over, after checkout or 11am whichever comes first. Abandonment of equipment will result in the removal of all items. Patrons are responsible for picking up their equipment and may be charged for storage. Per NYS Parks Rules & Regulations, Part 374, Lost Articles (and return thereof), equipment “...shall be turned over to a member of the State park police or ... (if not available)...”, to “an employee of the office”...(which can be any employee at the campground,) ... “and a receipt shall be issued”.
