3939: Charlie Jerk (RIP Butt-Head) w/ Rod Morrow

Rod Morrow joins Keith to discuss the news of the day: the murder of Charlie Kirk and your feelings today, remembering 9/11 and your feelings then, The Bachelorette's Taylor Frankie Paul, and Spike Lee and Denzel Washington’s new Apple TV+ movie Highest 2 Lowest. Enjoy. And remember, it’s okay to feel how you feel. God made you to feel a certain way, and God doesn’t make mistakes (except for things like floods and kids with cancer and your appendix, tonsils, wisdom teeth, and foreskin. So keep your head up).

Rod saying Charlie's kids are better off without him based on his opinions shook me.

He's right. How could a parent say the things he said about his own kids? It's disturbing.

I didn’t feel happy or sad about Charlie Kirk. I think he spoke it into existence. I hate that his kids were there to witness. I didn’t want to see the clip of him dying, but it popped up on flipping threads of all apps. It was violent and shocking. They said he wouldn’t have felt it for long and that he was basically dead immediately. I just know there are assholes out there who will be sending that video to his kids-which you are an asshole if you do that. Kids can’t help who they are born to.

Things are going to get worse with this. It hasn’t even been a full year of Trump’s presidency.

original High and Low (Heaven and Hell; original title)

I haven't seen Highest 2 Lowest and probably won't based on what I've heard, but it's a remake of a terrific Akira Kurosawa film, High and Low (originally Heaven and Hell, which is a better title) starring Toshiro Mifune. He's not a samurai warrior in this, and his acting is still compelling, as is the whole film.

Re: CK, what's warned against in this article already started happening the minute the news broke. Not surprising given the fascist playbook the GOP is following but it's still distressing.

Talking about how podcasts get you through hard times is real. Honestly this week has been hella hard on me with life things happening all at once. Listening to friendly voices without having to talk about my stuff is a gift. Wednesday poker chat too, great distraction from the heavy things going on with me .. if channeling the first OMAT tenet, I’m thankful to have podcasts with humor that hold place for sanity.
