Ha! Canadians and Americans will never agree on whose money is better. However, I have to say that calling your money "loonie" and "toonie" is quite gay. *We tried introducing a dollar coin in this country. It didn't take. Last edited by Blitzgal; 08-27-2007 at 10:48 AM. |

I do think the bill vs coin debate is largely personal preference, but the lifespan of a dollar bill is something like 25 months. If you found a dollar bill from fifty years ago, that would be unusual. But if you find a penny from fifty years ago, nobody bats an eye. So eventually your government is gonna get tired of the expenditure and go for coins. I guarantee it. And when you have no choice, because there are no bills left, trust me, it'll take.

But I think y'all should relax. Like I said, you've already got dollar coins. They're in widespread use in the subways of New York, and as the dollar continues to devalue the practice of printing it as a bill is gonna go away. It's not logic holding the process back, it's attachment to a tradition. Having one extra coin type isn't gonna weigh anybody down so much that they can't get to work on time. A few years after the switch you'll forget what dollar bills were even like. It is gonna happen, but you got no power to stop it. So don't worry about it. You should stop with the coin subway defense. I don't think any New Yorker knows what you're talking about. We don't use coins anymore, and even then they weren't $1 coins. They were a subway ride coin.
