splitting checks
here in the middle of the country, sometimes the waiter will ask if you want separate checks.. after you had your meal.. then he will figure out who gets what check.. split out the appetizers that were for the table and give everyone their separate checks...it sucks when you have to figure it out yourself.. i always like to just split it up evenly.. makes it easier if the restaurant wont do it for you.
At work on the other hand we never split the checks.. someone picks up the whole thing.. it doesn't really matter who pays because it is going to the expense account anyway. so, we like to see WHO the waiter/waitress will give the check too.. you know.. who LOOKS like the boss. if they just come by and wave it around the table.. like they do sometimes, or just stick it in the middle. the closest person gets it... if they ask 'who gets the check?" we'll say... 'You pick" I love it when the outgoing waitress has no problem with choosing... and really think it is lame when they say... "oh I can't do that'.. Just Pick someone.. we don't care

Ok, I'm a Southern guy and the check splitting thing almost always happens here. For most of us I have to say that it isn't a huge deal either way.
But one question, do you guys always pay in cash? Or do you have to give the waitress 5-6 cards and tell her "put $20 on this one, $30 on that one" etc.? |

Apology
I really apologize on behalf of most of us here in the ATL. I met Chemda early on Friday morning and i thought that Keith, Brolo and she would have a great time. Like any other event with 30k plus people some people just don't get it and just can't be cool.
DragonCon is usually a very open very cool atmosphere despite the general nerdiness of the whole affair. Most of the people that attend are there to peoplewatch and party. The ones that take this shit too seriously are the ones that fuck it up for us (mostly) normal people. The Marriott was under construction and it just made the whole thing seem a little claustrophobic and cramped. I totally agree with Chemda about the state of the Marriott and their fucking fucked up WIRED in room internet at $13 a day. The Construction in the lobby made it so that the hotel was really open to the outside so the A/C didn't help at all. I thought you guys were having a good time when I attended the live show but then I forget that podcasters (other than KATG) can be real assholes that are like crabs in a barrel. I requested that you guys get invited to Derek and Swoopy when the podcast track was added to Dragon Con because you guys are an awesome talent and i thought that you would get a real kick out of the Freak Show that is Dragon Con. Please don't judge Atlanta by your DragonCon 2007 experience. Come back again and you will get a better picture of Atlanta |

You were extremely cool and helpful. And like we say in the following show, we still had a blast coming to A-Town Down, there's just things we still had to mention. I learned about nerds and I was reinforced about podcasters. That doesn't mean we can't make our own fun.
Thanks again. Glad we came down. |

Depending on where you live in the US, there are different expectations about sharing checks. In the PNW, it's common for the waitress to ask who is together at the end of the meal, not before. Then she brings multiple checks. It's not uncommon at all in low-to-mid level restaurants. It doesn't happen in bars or nicer restaurants. So it's not fucking shady every time, sir; many people view it as normal and don't even realize others thinks it's weird. |

Keith was right on about podcasters.
When I was starting my show I asked people on the podcast alley forum for advice on what equipment to buy and didn't hear shit from them. I sent Keith an email and within a few hours he told me what mixer and mics they were using. Once again, thanks keith! |
