I almost feel like I've SEEN her as a teacher though...the more I look at her, the more she looks familiar. Maybe she was some teacher I never had in an elementary school or something? She's totally familiar to me.

For the record, her offense was some sort of sex offense with a 14 year old. I don't think it said whether it was a boy or girl.

Over here, everyone stays anonymous (for every crime) until they're dead or are a public figure which legitimates their name to be known.
I guess it's about the principle that once you served your sentence, you deserve a second chance.

You are right, this is one of the concepts of US criminal law, but something mostly unknown in Western European law. To me, it seems to be a legacy of old times. Public beheadings to fear the citizens, getting a mark or your finger cut off to show your sin.

Is it ok to (possibly) affect the lives of thousands to (possibly) save one person?

Will this have an effect on the majority of molesters like parents, relatives or friends of the family who get to be around your children all the time?

Although I respect the thought of protecting your children, I'm not convinced that this is the right way or even a successful one.
