"Pro from Dover?" I had never heard that before...


The pros from Dover is an American slang term for outside consultants who are brought into a business to troubleshoot and solve problems. The term comes from the 1968 book M*A*S*H by Richard Hooker. In the book, the character Hawkeye is described as using the guise of being the pro from Dover to obtain free entrance to golf courses:

I went to Easter mass in Florida when I was in second grade (so I don't know what kind of church it was) where the host was like a crouton. I was always taught not to let the host touch my teeth, which is fine with the wafers since they just melt, but doesn't work with croutons. I choked. I had to drink the wine to dislodge it. Which is really only significant because that's the only time I've ever had alcohol. Which is usually why I have to tell this boring story. So it's nice to be telling it for another reason.

It's not from that. They just used it in the movie because it's a thing that exists. And maybe even works. Or did for the first hundred times. Now they're kind of on to it. Just like the Ocean's movies.

When I was 19 my band mates and I were playing Dominos and they decided they wanted to play Spades

Point is maybe I don't unequivocally KNOW how to beat a polygraph in a real situation but I can offer first hand experience on my part and the part of a friend who HAS beaten the system.
