For that money I would preffer Grado RS-2 headphones.



only 500 bucks. If you have 1000 burning a hole in your pocket the GS1000 is a sweet piece of kit.

I've also seen the JVC headphones that are made of wood! they're bout 1100

I use both a pair of shure e3c's and grado sr80's. without a doubt the best transducers my budget could afford.

The shure in-ears take a while to get used to - get an ear mold if you plan to wear them a lot. $100 or so.

And for chrissakes plug your expensive headphones/in-ears into a DVD or cd player and listen to uncompressed audio (.e. NOT mp3's) It's incredible how accurate they are. DVD-Audio and SACD are mind-blowing.
