I thought this thread was going to be about the album Age of Consent from Bronski Beat. I was remembering the good old days in the 1980's when you had to hide the fact you liked the song Smalltown Boy. Obviously being castrated helped the singer reach the high notes, but it seemed a decent enough song at the time.

Having said that, obviously the Age of Consent album notes included the age of consent for homosexual "activities" in various countries. And yes, we were suspicious when one of our allegedly straight college room mates brought a copy.

I had the same reaction when I read the header to this thread. I think I still have the album somwhere. I remember reading the liner notes and thinking like - wtf?? Jimmi Somerville had another semi-hit later on when he did a collaboration and then I never herd of him again.

Nowadays all you ever hear from the 80s are songs like "Video Killed A Radio Star" and "I Want Candy" while they skip over gems like Smalltown Boy.
