Talib Kweli is decent.. i can't really get down with mos def or common... mos def is a little too blues-wannabe-art-faggy and common's alright.. just not as good as he constantly talks about being..

you ever listened to sage francis? he's got some nice wordplay

Give me a bandaid, a band that can play,
A fanbase with hearing aids and a voice like a hand grenade
I pull the wool over their vision
Pull the pin and push it in 'em
Using women as a pin cusion
A super villian
With some war paint and jokes done in poor taste
We'll see who laughs last all the way to foreign banks
...
Color me confused when they paint issues black and white
Resuscitate their grey matter right back to life
It's my destiny, she wants me she beckons
She left me for dead but death didnt want no sloppy seconds
I'm certified fresh
I freedom-kiss the French for their political dissent
Like *mwah* I do it with tongue this time
And take that bovine blood out your wine
And take that statue back to the lab it was created at
Your huddled masses yearning to breath free
Take 'em back!
Your homeless tempest-tossed to me
Take 'em back!
The U-S-A has cracked

If you want intelligent hip-hop, check out Mr. Lif. I have nothing against ignorant hip-hop in a purely musical sense; it is probably the music I listen to most. But if you do have discerning taste in the intelligence of your rap, Mr. Lif is the way to go.

I agree on Common to an extent I like his older stuff pre Electric Circus I'll stand up for Mos Def cuz I like a lot of his music and we were both born in brooklyn and Share a birthday

plus he's a better actor than most other rappers.

I've been hearing good stuff about this dude. I never really checked him. I will now though. I agree when da_ticklah said that there is too much repetitiveness in mainstream rap. But the problem is, the majority of hip hop that is seen by the masses is that dumbed down bullsh*t. That is why I created this topic. I wanted to show some artists in hip hop that arent about their bling bling and how many hoes he stuffed his dick into, to people that rarely ever see the good sh*t. My goal wasnt to make fans...It was to show the haters that there is good that comes with the bad...that's all.

It went like this:

"Mother!!
There is no other!!
...like mother!!
So treat her right!!"

It was an awesome song. Truly inspiring. The exclamation points really are necessary since each line is shouted by Mr. T.
