Here's part of an interview on Craig Ferguson's show with Stephen Fry wherein they discuss America. This clip is only ~3min, but the whole interview is worth watching.

I am pretty gay for the U.S. of A. but this clip strikes a couple of nerves for me. First, I like the positive message. However, the rapid recitation of statistics was, in my opinion, very likely meaningless. And the "good ol' days" statements that followed were half true at best.

Do I think the U.S. is #1? Fuck yeah. But I don't love it because of the end result we have experienced in this past moment with our math scores and incarceration rates. I love it for the process.

And just because I love mine the best, doesn't mean I think yours is bad. It's a shame the argument is always framed that way. I'd think we would all have learned that it's ok to be different by now.
