I've been playing through the campaign and it's pretty awesome. I've not really done PvP yet was planning on waiting to finish the campaign before I start some skirmishes

I did some PvP during beta and was scared away a little bit cause I was so bad. I'm going to concentrate on doing the campaign on normal and then again on hard first, then do the challenge missions before re-visiting PvP. I just don't enjoy losing to real people 1v1. :P

I used to love these type of games (Total Annihilation and others) but for some reason I never played StarCraft. I have no idea why. When I saw all the hype over StarCraft 2 I looked into it. Realizing what it was (and after talking to my son about the original game) I decided to get the original StarCraft and try it out. I like it. So... I will probably get the new game soon. :-)

I'll probably never play PvP because I suck at these types of games. I like the gameplay, but don't really have the time (or ability) to learn strategy and stuff. I play just to kill some time mostly.

I was top Gold, low Platinum during beta on the three server wipes I played. Unfortunately I'm too broke to buy the game atm and it'd probably take too much time.

You just have to know your builds and keep remembering to do the macro mechanic for your race, that'll make or break you. And obviously scout, micro tolerably, etc.

I played the beta a little. I've been doing alright in the practice league. I'm just not fast enough to be really good. I'm thegrundle@cox.net on battle.net

If it's a speed issue, watch a replay of your game and on top left select to view your APM (Actions-per-Minute). See how you compare to your opponent. Really good players generally average 200+, but people I played against that beat me had around 100-150. If you're doing 40, that means you're just sitting there doing nothing part of the time (like watching a battle you can't micro, or not scouting as you build).

Also there's a way to see a diagram of build orders side by side, see how fast you get your early drones and important buildings, especially if you're playing the same race.

If you really want to practice multi-tasking, there's a good trainer map:
Multitasking Trainer - StarCraft 2 Maps - SC2Mapster.com

Start with the easiest, because it's a really hard map.

I only beat Easy so far.

It's fucking amazing. It's surreal to play a phenomenal sequel to a game I've loved for a decade.
