Anyone Homebrew?

I started making beer in 1996, it never came out well (too much air or not sanitized enough)
I just bought a carboy and some other parts and just bottled a raspberry hefeweissen, gonna make an apfelwein now.
Anyone else into homebrewing?

I used to, back, hell, probably around '96. My first batch was shit, the rest...great taste, evil farts.

As long as the temperature that you added the yeast to the wort was just right (less than 85 in ye olde farenheit scale) , the results were good to damn good.

Anyway, enjoy your independence, once you know the principles, the Man can't keep you sober.

I worked mostly on ales, once made a mead. Wasn't patient enough for lager.

I have been wanting to try homebrewing for years now, but the money is never there for the initial investment. Plus there are so many homebrew kits online I don't know where to begin, or what to buy. Anyone know what the initial investment is? And where to find a good starter kit?

something like this is what you need: LINK
do NOT buy a beer-in-a-bag kit. you can also buy these starter kits at your local homebrew shop or at other retailers online.

what homebrewing amounts to is being able to follow a recipe and the patience and foresight to plan months ahead. the raspberry hefeweissen i made wont be ready for another 2 months at least.

its also good to note that 5 gallons = approx 53 bottles. having only 32 bottles 3 days before bottling time is not a good option =p

You're doing something wrong. Even if you tank-ferment and then bottle condition I don't see how it could take that long. Are you doing your secondary fermentation in your garage in winter?

my friend and i have been homebrewing for the past 2 months, we have done 3 different brews. they have all come out well and we probably should be cleaning everything twice as well as we do.

usually takes a week to ferment and then we have it sit in the bottles for another 2 weeks after that before drinking.

so far the october fest has been the best.

we are getting a second fermenting bucket and will be starting our own experimental beer in about a month while still brewing stuff we like.

i think it cost us about 300 bucks to go from having absolutely nothing to having a full 2 cases bottled.

if you get a friend to brew with you it makes it a lot more fun and esier on the wallet

now that we have everything it costs us about 50 bucks for 50 beers
