Best Comedians ever

Who would you rate as the best three comedians ever and why?
The list is not limited to stand up or recent comedians.

My 3 would be:

1. Peter Sellers - The Goon show. Comedy for somebody 10 or 100 and still funny to this day 55 years after the first episode was produced.

2. Peter Cook - With classics such as Ad nausam and Derek and Clive (live). You could call Peter and Dudley Moore the original podcasters in the presentation of their comedy. Anybody who has heard the skit " This bloke came up to me" would have enjoyed the greatest abuse of the words fuck and cunt which would make Richard Priors hair stand on end at the time.

3. Benny Hill - Pick something, anything... It's all funny.

I invite your comments.

I'm gonna say...

1) Eddie Izzard
2) Mitch Hedberg
3) Doug Stanhope

Mitch was my favorite comedian for years before he died and Doug Stanhope has always been one of my favorites. They've both been on the show so you might have heard their stuff before, but everybody check out Eddie Izzard. He's a British transvestite (transvestites are not gay) and it takes a while to get over that he's dressed like a woman, but he is awesome. Plus...all his shows are 90 minutes and he never repeats jokes.

Mitch Hedberg was on the show? Anyone remember which one? I've listened to them all, but I must have missed it!

Robert Schimmel
Super funny, Unprotected is one of my favorite CD's

David Cross
His standup is just as funny as Mr Show.

I know Keet would argue this one, but Paula Poundstone.
I love the way she can work the crowd and talk to them and make jokes playing off them. I've seen her every time she's in town. That's what makes the show new and interesting every time.

Paula is now on NPR. Wait. Wait Don't Tell me. She loses her edge by being on there.

I think there is a thread about best comedians already.

Mitch Hedberg, (RIP)
Robert Schimmel
Eddie Izzard

Can you really beat a cross-dressing comedian?
