Comp Parts
so im getting some new parts for my computer this christmas and i wanted your opinions.
curently ive run out of space on my hard drive and i cant run too many things or my comp freezes. currently i have AMD athlon 64 processor 3500+ 2.21 GHz 2 GB of RAM nvidia geforce 6600 dual graphics card Western digital 80gb hard drive (it was a loner from the store and i never went back to get my original which was being fixed) so im trying to decide which hard drive to get and which new processor i want, and whether i need a new one even though my comp freezes with multiple apps running. for the hard drive im thinking Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive OEM or(it there a huge noticeable difference between the 10,000rpm and 7200rpm?) Western Digital Caviar SE16 250 GB, 300 MB/s, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM and for the processor im thinking Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13 GHz 2M Sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor or AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor tell me what you guys think i should choose. thanks for you help, much appreciated, Mr. Hat

What you need depends on what apps you run, your computer shouldn't be freezing whilst running mutiple apps, unless you are running heavy proggies. Perhaps you need to re-install windows and just add a new HD. The raptor is quick and sweet, but LOUD AS FUCK. Since you seem to know little about computers, i doubt you will notice the diff between the 2 hard drives.
I hope you realise that a new proccessor will require you to buy a new motherboard, and possibly new ram and other shit. Last edited by OCD Dude; 12-15-2006 at 01:52 PM. |

What games do you play, which specific programs do you run? What have you tried to find out what is wrong with your comp?
How much (free) space do you have on your HD now? Run memtest to see if your ram is ok. I think your current setup should be fine for the things you do. What I would recommend at this point is buy a larger HD and re-install windows on it, keep the other HD for extra space. Anybody else have any suggetions? |

Please run the memtest program to see if your ram is ok, let me know what the result is. For the rest, I still think you should just get a new HD. Your computer should be fine for those games and proggies.
