Carelessness is a whole nation going to bed every night without brushing their teeth. Dropping a cell phone in a cab once is just an accident.

Well done.

Like in the article that's linked to in my signature:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/03/wo...=1&oref=slogin
SHANGHAI, June 2 It began with an impassioned, 5,000-word letter on one of the country's most popular Internet bulletin boards from a husband denouncing a college student he suspected of having an affair with his wife. Immediately, hundreds joined in the attack.

"Let's use our keyboard and mouse in our hands as weapons," one person wrote, "to chop off the heads of these adulterers, to pay for the sacrifice of the husband."

Within days, the hundreds had grown to thousands, and then tens of thousands, with total strangers forming teams that hunted down the student, hounded him out of his university and caused his family to barricade themselves inside their home.

How is that theft? They just found it, right?

And so we see how slowly but surely ethics leach away from modern society.

Like I saw in one of the stories regarding the ethical concerns revolving around the story.. If you find something that contains information about who the owner is or how to contact them - A wallet with a driver's license, a cell phone, etc. - you should take a few minutes out of your life to make an attempt to contact that person and let them know about it. On the other hand, if you find loose cash or something which has no way of being traced back to an owner, its fair game.
I guess you could argue that you should follow stricter guidelines like turning the cash into the police for the 30 day minimum and if nobody claims it, you get it back, but I'm not sure a whole lot of people would go that far. I wouldn't have trouble sleeping at night if i kept 100 bucks I saw flapping around on the street.
