Elderly woman slammed hard by police at Walmart
I was just thinking what everyone else thought of this.

Meh. She had a knife, she wouldn't stop of put it down. Either she's too old, too stupid or too crazy to listen. If she's such a harmless little old lady, then why the hell didn't her own daughter, who was obviously there, take the knife from her?
Maybe it wasn't the best course of action, but I'd say it wasn't out of line. |

Nah, that's what happens when an old lady with a medical condition threatens a cop with a knife. Had I done that my ass would have been shot and rightfully so.
Bitches complaining about the police using too much force need to go back home. |

I think it probably could have been resolved without the old lady being taken to the ground, but then again the cop still had a hard time getting the knife out of her hand... probably should have tazed her first.

But it would have required putting herself(the cop) at added risk. And on a long enough timeline, added risk adds up to getting stabbed in the face. Nobody really wants cops making judgement calls, there are too many from too many backgrounds to expect any kind of consistent common sense behavior if given authority to use their best judgement. That said, I disagree about the taser, what if she had a pacemaker? Nobody wants high ventricular rate episodes, amirite? Were I the cop, I would have considered that in this case and opted for the safer take down that the cop used. Man, my reply is somewhat inconsistent. /shrug

I suspect that what actually happened is that the cop didn't really intend to slam the old dear and split her head open on the pavement. She'd probably never taken down an octegenarian before and, combined with the adrenaline, was surprised by how much she sailed. I bet the cop that did it feels pretty bad.
Of course, the police would never admit that, they never admit that they could've handled any situation better than they did for fear of a law suit. |

She did exactly what should have been done. If her own children thought the situation could have been handled without force they would have done it themselves. It doesn't matter if she was crazy, stupid or old. All 3 are just as dangerous with a knife. The guy who said if it were you or I with that knife we would have been shot is right. A knife is a weapon and if you are using it in a threatening manner you need to be taken care of.
This cop probably thought about the taser and opted not to use it because of her age. That and we don't know what she was saying to the cops, or what she was doing with the knife before the police arrived. I hate cops honestly, but I'd have to say a good 80-90% of them are good people with our best interests in mind, so I think people need to lay off them a bit and stop being armchair quarterbacks.
