Help London KATG'ers

Hello chaps,

I need your help: My gf & I had planned to spend our summer hols in blighty visiting London with 2 friends. The four of us were going to do a house swap with someone, but they've backed out at last minute (bastard) and we've got non-refundable flights.

Any recommendations on where to rent a cheapish short-term apartment (10 days?)

She had planned this trip as my b'day present and is really down about this. We can't really afford a hotel for 10 days (poor students) and from what I've been able to find out the youth hostels are booked.

I found a few listings on gumtree, but they seemed terribly scammy and I don't really want to risk getting ripped off after the swap debacle.

If you've got any recommendations, ideas or just know a holiday-flat-rental company that isn't from nigeria I'd really appreciate it.
