I beg to differ Marina - I've seen a couple of sounding scenes that I would absolutely describe as extreme (unbelievably!!!!!!! large sounds and being connected to a tens machine for example).

Besides which, a first time with a sound is always going to be extreme, regardless of the size.

The best advice to a first-timer is take it slow and build up to the extreme stuff (ie - start with smaller sounds and work up to the bigger ones). Oh - Make sure the sounds are very clean and use sterile lube and lots of it - it's an easy place to introduce infections

As to vices - I don't know much about that - I'd suggest you start with someone just squeezing your balls by hand first to get used to the sensation - I've seen quite a bit of cock and ball stretching but not so much of the crushing :P

Go to workshops etc, find someone who knows what they're doing and learn from there. If your local BDSM community is anything like the one over here there'll be heaps of people willing on pass on their knowledge and let you know what is and isn't safe (or at least what is more safe).

Twisted Monk are awesome and their rope is fantastic - beautiful colours - but (and this is not to take anything away from them) they are expensive. Shop around a bit - we can get 15 metres of cotton rope over here for $NZ4 - that's effectively 2 lengths - and it's nice and soft and dyes really easily - plus, at that price, you don't care if you have to cut it off in a hurry (not that I've ever actually seen that happen). Speaking of which - when using rope always have safety scissors handy - as in right there with you - not on a table across the room or in the 3rd drawer in the kitchen. Chances are you'll never need them but goddammit - if you do and they're not there you will regret it. And always check in with the person being tied - numbness, cold, tingling etc are all signs they need to be untied.

Ya, you have to be prepared to lose your balls if you want to go into vices and crushing. Sounding is pretty tame though.
