How Do You Get To Sleep?

Inspired by recent conversations in My Name Is Keith with Myka and KATG with Jaqueline and Chris.

Living for so many years in apartments in Chicago (one of which sounded like the train was on the other side of the wall) that had a lot of noise I just got used to it lulling me to sleep. I got used to something being on and now in Boston I can hear crickets and it weirds me out. Thus a podcast at a very very low volume thats about something sort of boring history usually.
Side note does anyone listen to podcasts in bed without bothering their partner without wearing headphones? Its the only way I can't bother my boyfriend and I'm starting to hate waking up because I got a bit tangled in the middle of the night. I'm more than open to alternatives.

Years living with roommates, I use ear plugs. -32db. Also Melatonin, but that's not a drug.

I always had trouble getting to sleep. Then a few years ago, I was lying in bed listening to KATG on a very low volume and I passed out in less than 10 minutes. I don't know why it works, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Unless I'm up so late my eyes won't stay open I read a book to get my head out of real life before I go to sleep. If that doesn't work and I still have the trials of the day spinning in my head once I click the light off then I'll put an earbud in and let a podcast smooth out those waves.

I just have one earbud in and make sure the cord runs over the top of my head rather than past my throat and I don't get tangled but I stumbled across a few things a while back that might be just what the doctor ordered.

I used to do audiobooks. Actually, when I first started listening to KATG, I tried falling asleep to the one where Victor Varnado was first on (before I've ever heard him). I probably passed out 3 loops in.

I either work a 14-hour day or drink wine. I'm a huge insomniac so I have a Rx for Xanax if I get desperate but I only take it twice a month or so.

I'm a terrible sleeper. I have a horrible time falling asleep and I'm an extremely light sleeper.
I use a sound machine app on my phone which helps some but it still takes me an hour or so to fall asleep.

I fall asleep very quickly due to the kids waking through the night for so long. Now they are sleeping pretty well but I still go to bed around 11pm then wake at 5am for work so I'm ready to sleep immediately.

I used to listen to music to fall asleep and wish I could do that now but I would barely get through the first song and I'd be out.

I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat, but I force myself to stay up, especially after a late day at the office because I want to actually have some time at home to myself. I'll usually read a book or comic book or watch a show like Family Guy or The Simpsons.
